Google is expanding its agentic commerce stack so products can be better understood and recommended across AI Mode, Gemini and Search. Retailers also gain Merchant Center insights showing how their brands appear in conversational answers.

Measuring visibility beyond clicks

In a generated answer, several brands may be cited, compared or omitted without a conventional results page. Merchant Center therefore adds share-of-voice measurement against competitors across AI Mode and AI Overviews. It is announced for Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the United States.

That signal helps explain discovery, but it does not replace sales, margin or satisfaction. Frequent mentions may still be unprofitable when a product is recommended in the wrong context.

Product feeds designed for conversation

Google advises adding attributes that describe uses, style and differences that do not fit a short title. During testing with lululemon, those details were incorporated into some relevant recommendations. Data needs to remain factual, structured and consistent with the product page.

From recommendation to checkout

The UCP protocol lets selected merchants offer checkout from Google experiences including Search and Gemini. It reduces steps but moves part of the customer relationship onto the platform. Retailers need to review attribution, support, consent and data access.

What merchants should prepare

A clean feed matters even more: price, availability, variants, video and policies must stay current. Teams should also compare AI-surface performance with other channels. Agentic commerce promises less friction; it does not remove the need for a competitive offer or independent measurement.
